The contents are county level data with historical data for census years 1987 and 1982 for the following states: Colorado Connecticut Delaware Florida Idaho Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas Maine Maryland Massachusetts Michigan Missouri New Hampshire New Jersey New York Ohio Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island Vermont Virginia Washington West Virginia Wisconsin Wyoming System Requirements IBM PC-compatible computer 520 kilobytes RAM available 1 megabyte available on hard disk CD-ROM reader installed with MSCDEX.EXE 2.0 or later File types: ASCII and dBASE III+ Your CONFIG.SYS file must include these lines: FILES=29 or any higher number. BUFFERS=20 or any higher number. GETTING STARTED 1. Insert CD-ROM 2. Make your CD-ROM the default drive (This is usually D drive or L drive) 3. Type menu and CHOOSING GO or EXTRACT To select one of the options, type the option name and press ***************************************************************** * * * GO Select/extract statistics and display statistics * * * * EXTRACT Select/extract statistics and display statistics * * * * INSTALL Install EXTRACT on your hard disk * * ***************************************************************** Type GO for a menu oriented display and retrieval system for the data. Type EXTRACT (or INSTALL when using the first time) for another menu oriented display and retrieval system. EXTRACT documentation is contained in the file EXTRACT.DOC. Both GO and EXTRACT will let you: * select data for specific geographic areas * print out selected data * copy data to a file in dBASE, spreadsheet, or ASCII formats GO lets you: * sort a data item within a state by FIPS code or census year * copy all county totals for states or counties up to 10 items * toggle between counties within a state for the same table and data item FILE INFORMATION The data files are in dBASE III+ format. The documentation and descriptive files are stored as ASCII text files (exception: the abbreviations file is in dBASE III+ format).
